Quick Coupling Alignment Kit

INDO PUMP BRAND “QUICK COUPLING ALIGNMENT KIT”

PURPOSE:

Alignment of rotating machinery has always been considered to be unpredictable task. To give an absolute solution to alignment problems, we have developed ‘Coupling Quick alignment kit’ which helps to complete the alignment of driver and driven equipment precisely within short period of time.

SPECIFICATION

This kit covers to carry out alignment of

  •  Shaft diameter from 25 to 250 mm,
  •  Distance between shaft ends (DBSE) up to 250 mm by using set dial gauges
  •  For long DBSE, two set of dial gauges can be used by mounting each set of dial gauge at each end of shaft.

REQUIREMENT

Before doing alignment, please ensure that,

  •  Finish bore of coupling hubs must be concentric w.r.t. flange outside dia.
  •  Grub screw on keyway of coupling hubs must be properly tightened.
  •  Horizontal & vertical jacking bolts must be provided at the base of the equipment.

INSTALLATION OF KIT

While performing alignment, it is necessary to keep one machine as a Fixed Machine (FM) and other machine /equipment as a Machine To Be Shimmed (MTBS) Normally, motor will be the MTBS and driven equipment will be the FM

  •  Mount the aluminum clamp on hub dia. Of one coupling hub FM with the help of hex bolt and nut.
  •  Mount the steel rods and clamp them with the help of clamping knob.
  •  Clamp the dial gauge to steel rod in such way that plunger of dial will be on flange dia. of another coupling hub.

ALIGNMENT PROCEDURE:

To achieve co-axiality of both shafts, alignment readings must be taken in two planes

1. Vertical Plane, 2. Horizontal plane

In vertical plane, dial gauge readings are taken at top & bottom side where as in horizontal plane, readings are taken at left & right side of coupling hub.

It is to be ensure that the algebraic sum of dial gauge reading taken at top & bottom of coupling hub must be equal to the algebraic sum of readings are taken at left & right side of coupling hub. This is possible only when readings are taken in single sweep of dial gauge. (i.e. without adjusting dial gauge in between)

During alignment we have to take set of reading for finding out,

Offset: is the amount of radial displacement between FM shaft and MTBS shaft. It is measured at the coupling flange diameter and expressed in mm.

Angularity: is the amount of angular displacement between FM shaft & MTBS shaft. It is measured on flange face & expressed in mm.

A) For DBSE up to 250 mm

Before doing alignment, please ensure that,

  •  Clamp the dial gauges as shown in above fig.
  •  Keeping dial plunger at flange dia. of coupling hub of FM, rotate MTBS shaft at 90, 180, & 270 degree & record the dial gauge reading at L,B,R positions as shown below.
  •  When readings are taken at flange OD of coupling hub at above said position, then the difference in corresponding readings shown radial alignment of MTBS shaft w.r.t. FM shaft.
  •  This can be corrected by adding or removing shims from the base of MTBS .
  •  When readings are taken at the face of coupling flange at above said position, then the difference in corresponding readings shown angularity of MTBS shaft w.r.t. FM shaft.
  •  This can be corrected by moving MTBS shaft to left or right side.
  •  After correction, take final set of reading and ensure that they are achieved as close as possible.
  •  Take trial run for one hour, and take final readings to ensure that are not disturb.

B) For Longer DBSE

Do the complete assembly of spacer shaft with both side of coupling hub.

  •  Clamp the dial gauges on both side of assembly as shown in above diagram.
  •  Keep dial plunger at the flange dia. of spacer on both side of assembly as shown.
  • This will measure the radial alignment of drive and driven equipment w.r.t. spacer. Rotate the shaft and record the reading at LBR position on drive & driven side.
  •  The difference in corresponding reading shows the amount of shims to be added or to remove from Base of drive & driven equipment with the help of jacking bolts.

  •  Keep another dial plunger at the flange facer of space on both side of assembly as shown. This will measure the angular alignment of drive and driven equipment w.r.t spacer.
  •  Rotate the driver shaft and record the reading at L, B, R position of both equipment side.
  •  The difference in corresponding reading shows the angularity of drive and driven equipment w.r.t. spacer.
  •  This can be corrected by moving the drive & driven equipment to left or side side Jacking bolt.
  •  After doing all corrections, take final set of both reading & ensure that they are achieve as close as possible.
  •  If not then repeat the same procedure to achieve close readings.
  •  Take trial run for one hour & ensure that final taken readings are not disturbed.
  •  This completes the alignment procedure for Indo Pump Brand coupling Quick Alignment Kit.
